Why it is in the guide

The pub’s story

Nobles occupies the ground-floor bar at 44A Constitution Street within a Category B-listed late-Victorian block. Historic Environment Scotland records the building work in the 1890s and singles out the bar’s plaster ceiling, ship-motif frieze, diamond-panelled woodwork and carved gantry; the quality of the interior and façade should not be underestimated. Bellfield Brewery took a new lease in 2025, retained the Nobles identity and reopened the venue as Nobles by Bellfield after a short refurbishment. It now combines Bellfield beer, guest drinks and a food offer with the surviving room. The screen connection predates that change: Film Edinburgh’s official Sunshine on Leith map names Nobles Bar among Ally and Davy’s favourite watering holes and the “I’m On My Way” sequence. The map does not allocate exact interior and exterior shots between Nobles and the nearby former Port O’ Leith, so this profile does not pretend it can.

What to notice

  1. 01

Look above and around the front room for the plaster ceiling and shallow frieze with ship motifs recorded by Historic Environment Scotland.

  2. 02

The diamond-panelled woodwork and carved timber gantry belong to the documented historic interior; the current operation is newer.

  3. 03

The turquoise frontage, arched stained glass and round Nobles sign make the venue easy to recognise from Constitution Street.

  4. 04

The official Sunshine on Leith map connects Nobles to the “I’m On My Way” sequence but does not resolve the exact shot-by-shot footprint.

  5. 05

The Shore tram stop is directly opposite. Children and dogs are welcome under the current operator’s policy; contact the venue for detailed step-free access information.

Sources & confidence

Historic Environment Scotland is the strongest source for the listed block and the bar’s late-Victorian interior features. Bellfield’s own 2025-26 pages establish the lease change, current name, address, offer, contact details and dedicated venue hours. CAMRA corroborates the continued venue and restoration significance, though some CAMRA hours differ from Bellfield’s dedicated page. Film Edinburgh’s official movie map supports the Sunshine on Leith connection while leaving the exact filming footprint unresolved.
