Why it is in the guide

The pub’s story

Moonwake is a modern Leith brewery established in 2021, not a historic Shore pub wearing a brewery brand. Its name means the moon’s reflection on water, an operator explanation tied directly to the Leith Shore setting and brewing water. The mezzanine taproom opened on 23 September 2021, placing drinkers above the working brewery rather than in a detached bar. Moonwake’s own record charts a quick run of recognition: Best New Brewery in 2022, Best Beer Destination for the taproom in 2023, and a 2025 SIBA regional gold for Leith Helles. Those are the operator’s award listings, not proof that every beer or event will be available on a given visit. The present experience is physical and practical: brewery views, a mezzanine bar, back room, tours and a beer garden. The official site also gives clear access and allergy information, making this a genuinely usable contemporary taproom record.

During your visit

What to notice

  1. 01

The mezzanine looks over the working brewery, making production views part of the visit rather than background décor.

  2. 02

The taproom is card-only and states a strict no-nuts policy across the taproom, brewery and beer garden.

  3. 03

The operator says the venue is wheelchair accessible, dog-friendly and family-friendly until 6pm; tours and events should be checked ahead.

Sources & confidence

Moonwake’s official taproom and history pages establish the 2021 company identity, name meaning, exact opening date and current 2026 programme. CAMRA independently corroborates the venue and address, although its public exterior is from 2021. The historical claims are modest and well supported.
