Why it is in the guide

The pub’s story

Leith Depot’s history is contemporary and communal rather than an invented transport-depot origin. Project Scotland reports that the independent bar, restaurant and music venue had been based at this Leith Walk location since 2015. CAMRA records that it was saved from demolition in 2019, then expanded in 2023 into an adjoining accessible events room with its own small bar. The List gives the reopening a sharper date: the new ground-floor venue opened on 19 January 2023. Later reporting confirms a new lease and wider footprint at the refurbished Red Sandstone building. The operator describes active Music Venues Alliance and Music Venue Trust work, publishes access details and records Best Bar None recognition in 2023 and 2024. This is a live example of a venue surviving redevelopment pressure, then reshaping its premises for grassroots performance. Not evidence that the bar itself once functioned as a transport depot.

What to notice

  1. 01

The accessible events room is a 2023 expansion beside the original bar/restaurant rather than a separate historic venue.

  2. 02

The operator says ramps are available at the main entrance, venue door and stage, and that there is an accessible unisex toilet; contact it ahead for specific access needs.

  3. 03

The ‘Depot’ name is not evidence of a former transport function. This record documents the venue’s contemporary survival and music-community history instead.

Sources & confidence

The operator’s home, venue and history pages establish the independent identity, refurbishment, accessibility and campaign story. CAMRA independently corroborates the 2019 rescue and 2023 expansion. No source found supports treating the name as proof of an historic transport-depot use, so that inference is excluded.
