Why it is in the guide

The pub’s story

Inn on the Mile is a boutique hotel bar and kitchen in a former British Linen Bank branch at 82 High Street. The British Linen Company was formed in 1746, but the present Royal Mile building is much later: the venue’s history and an independent city guide both place it in 1923. Its banking story is visible rather than merely decorative. The operator points to the Doric frontage, penny-covered bar and retained safe. The former Bank Hotel is not a traditional cask-pub: CAMRA lists no real ale, while the current offer centres on food, whisky, drinks, outdoor tables and nightly live music. It works as a breakfast-to-evening Royal Mile stop and as a small hotel bar, rather than a late-night crawl guarantee. Official copy supplies starts and late opening but not every fixed close; the app uses a recently updated directory schedule and flags that distinction.

What to notice

  1. 01

The penny-fronted bar and original safe are the clearest surviving references to the former bank.

  2. 02

This is not a cask-ale stop: CAMRA lists no real ale; the venue’s current emphasis is food, whisky, hotel guests and live music.

  3. 03

The operator gives 08:00 starts Mon. Sat and ‘late’ Fri. Sat; the app’s complete hours use a directory updated 12 June 2026. Confirm late/Sunday plans directly.

Sources & confidence

The venue’s official history supports the building’s claimed banking lineage and the 1923 former-branch identity, but it is operator history rather than an independent architectural survey. The current official pub page supports address, service, daily live-music claim and the published hours. Because fixed Sunday/late closing times are not published, no machine-readable weekly schedule is inferred.
