Why it is in the guide

The pub’s story

Sneaky Pete’s is a 100-capacity Cowgate grassroots venue where gig and club culture deliberately share one compact room. Companies House records the business’s incorporation at 73 Cowgate in June 2008, while the venue’s own account and later interviews place its start in the same year. Its scale is its purpose: shows run close to the audience, new artists can take risks, and the programming remains active every night. The venue marked ten years in 2018, won Music Week’s Grassroots Music Venue: Spirit of the Scene award in 2019, and was profiled as a key Scottish music venue in 2024. That makes it a significant contemporary cultural institution, not a historic pub. Check the event type: evening gigs, late club nights and August or Christmas schedules have different timings and entry rules.

During your visit

This is a 100-capacity room; buy tickets in advance when a show matters to you.

  2. 02

Gig and club-night rules differ: most gigs are 18+, while Friday and Saturday gigs can admit accompanied 14+ visitors.

  3. 03

Expect strobes on some club nights; the venue says there is no access loop.
