Why it is in the guide

The pub’s story

BrewDog DogHouse Edinburgh combines a 20-room beer hotel with two bars open to non-residents at 5 New Street, a short walk from the Royal Mile and Waverley’s Market Street exit. It opened in December 2021: the downstairs bar was publicly unveiled on 3 December and hotel guests arrived from 6 December. The central offer is craft beer. BrewDog currently advertises more than 30 taps. With food, cocktails and non-beer options alongside it. Upstairs, a terrace bar with firepits turns the building into one of the Old Town’s more relaxed high-level drinking stops, although it is not a panoramic rooftop destination. The venue’s own material confirms both the ground-floor and terrace bars are public, while CAMRA notes a broad keg/can range but no real cask ale. It is best understood as a modern branded beer hotel, not a historic pub, and outdoor availability may be constrained by weather or private events.
