Why it is in the guide

The pub’s story

Starbank Inn occupies a stone house range at 64 Laverockbank Road, close to the Newhaven waterfront. David King describes four original houses, thought to date from around 1810, with the upper homes reached from behind. He identifies the north ground-floor house as the first licensed part and notes a pub marked on an 1896 map. The 1900 trades' directory lists Starbank Arms on Laverockbank Road. Winter 1991-92 brought interior alterations and a rear conservatory, followed by another refit and Belhaven management in March 2010. Inside, CAMRA describes U-shaped bare-boarded rooms with brewery mirrors and model ships at the windows. Changing cask ales and views over the Forth give the rooms their present drinking character. The raised central doorway sits below the dark THE STARBANK INN fascia and upper sash windows. Peter Stubbs recalls attending local history meetings here around 2008, a role corroborated by the group's own leaflet.

Sources & confidence

Five distinct chronology rows now include Starbank's documented role as a local history meeting place around 2008. A firsthand recollection and the group's 2007 leaflet corroborate the role; they do not establish a present event programme. Accepted building, pub-use,1991-92 and 2010 alterations, official seven-day hours and frontage evidence are preserved. Assets and live staging remain separate.
