Why it is in the guide

The pub’s story

Herringbone Abbeyhill opened on 28 April 2023 at 3 Royal Terrace Gardens. The compact building had previously served as an office and, earlier, as public toilets. Buzzworks acquired the site in April 2022, then commissioned a conversion with a new kitchen and extension, bar, banquette seating, improved access and a raised outdoor deck. The result sits low against the garden slope, approached by steps and marked by timber cladding carrying the Herringbone name and monogram. At opening, the venue had capacity for about 120 people and created twenty jobs. The current offer runs from weekend breakfast through lunch, dinner and late drinks, with cocktails, local craft and draught beers, and thirty wines available by the glass. Its appeal comes from the careful reuse of a small garden-side building and the easy movement between the bar, dining room and terrace.
